A book I read once said that our current character is a composite of the last five books we read the year before.  I suppose it is similar to the saying that we become who we hang out with. (Are there any millionaires out there?  I want to hand out with you.)  Where was I? Oh yeah, the book also went on to share the sad fact that the majority of Americans, if not humanity, do not read another book after graduating from high school (or college, or whatever the individual’s aspirations are).

If you see my values page,  you will see that I value life long learning.  Here is a listing of books that have shaped my character and thinking over the years.

Personally:

  • Billy the Bullseye Butt Bull and Friends (shameless plug, but true)
  • Bible – NIV is the one I read.  You have many options.
  • Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence – Right before bed, or right when you wake seems to be the best time to read this one day at a time.
  • World Religions (from junior college)
  • The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love that Lasts – My love languages are Acts of Service and Touch.  What are yours?
  • The Love Dare was something I used to save my marriage.  Did not work, but that’s because a good marriage takes two.  The related movie, “Fireproof” was good too.
  • Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters: 10 Secrets Every Father Should Know – Good for all fathers.
  • The Giving Tree – Makes me cry every time.
  • Furiously Happy – This book is hilarious!
  • Let’s Pretend This Never Happened – This book precedes Furiously Happy.
  • 10% Happier
  • Loving What Is
  • The Power of Now
  • The Secret – Also in an easy to watch movie.
  • Choice Theory
  • Untethered Soul
  • The Mindbody Prescription
  • Healing Back Pain: The Mind-Body Connection
  • Bragg Healthy Lifestyle: Living to 120 – Ask me how I met her.
  • The Feeling Good Workbook
  • Detoxify or Die
  • Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself
  • Boundaries
  • The Acid Alkaline Diet
  • Rich Dad Poor Dad
  • Dr. Seuss: Yertle the Turtle (Power Lesson), Gertrude Mc Fuzz (Self Acceptance Lesson), The First of Octember (Lesson on Wanting), Go Dog Go (Just Fun), Green Eggs and Ham (Lesson on Open Mindedness), and many more.
  • Rules of the Red Rubber Ball – For work and for play.
  • A Light in the Attic and Where the Sidewalk Ends
  • Touching for Pleasure – Had an impact on me when I was a teenager and likely shaped my love language of touch.
  • The Alchemist – For wisdom and self acceptance.
  • And many more…

I will post more eventually, if there is an interest.
